The history of Gazipasa dates back to 628 BC.

During this period, Gazipasa, known as Selinus, continued to exist as a port city established on both sides of the Haci Musa Stream.

During the Roman rule, Gazipasa was founded by the Seljuk Sultan 1. With the conquest of Alanya by Alaaddin Keykubat in 1221, it passed to the Seljuk administration and was included in the Ottoman administration by Gedik Ahmet Pasha in 1471 under the name of Selinti.

The name of Gazipasa in the modern period  was determined as ‘’Gazipasa’’ by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk with the decision  of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette  on October 21, 1921.

However, in 1926, due to the lack of population, the status of a district was abolished.

The east of the Hacimusa Stream is connected to Anamur as Sansa Township, and the west is connected to Alanya as Pazarci Gazipasa.

This situation led to its connection to Mersin province between 1926 and 1948.

However, on January 1, 1948, with the decision of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Gazipasa regained the status of a district.

In this historical past that extends to the present day, Gazipasa has hosted various civilizations and witnessed important events.

• Koru Beach

Koru Beach, Natural Pools, is one of the rare natural wonders located in the Gazipasa district of Antalya.

These pools, popularly known as ‘’Yali Stone’’, attract attention with their interesting formations.

These shapes, which occur in areas where there are coastal dunes, are due to the fact that sand and pebbles are connected to each other with  carbonate cement under the influence of the tide, forming a petrification parallel to the sea.

An interesting feature of Yali stones is that they are soft when they are in the sea, but they harden when they are removed.

Due to these features, it was used in millstone construction in the past in the region and integrated into the corner joints of the buildings.

• Aysultan Women’s Beach

Aysultan Women’s Beach is located in the northwest direction, approximately 8 kilometers from Gazipasa district center.

You can easily reach the beach, which is very close to the Ancient city of Iotape, by following the coastline in the north direction.

• Antiocheia Ad Cragum Antik City

The Ancient city of Antiochia Ad Cragum has a tremendous location on the Mediterranean coast in the region known as  Mountainous Cilicia and is located in the Guneykoy Neighborhood within the borders of  the Gazipasa district.

Although it is a city that meets the sea, its center is located at an altitude of about 300 - 350 meters above sea level, surrounded by rocky and steep slopes facing various directions.

• Iotape Ancient City

The Ancient city, located in Gazipasa, was named after the King of Commagene 4. Antiochos' wife from 38 – 72 AD is named after Iotape.

The city has minted coins in its name from the Roman Emperor Trajan to Valerian.

Its ruins have the characteristics of the Roman and Byzantine Periods.

A high promontory extending towards the sea functions as the acropolis of the city, and since this part is surrounded by walls, it looks like a castle, but the structures have been quite destroyed over time.

In the small valley where the acropolis connects to the land, there is a harbor street extending in the east and west directions.

Unfortunately, a large part of the harbor street is now under the highway.

On both sides of the ancient street, there are crepes consisting of three steps and the remains of statue bases that have been destroyed over time.

These pedestal inscriptions contain information about prominent and benevolent citizens of the city.

The Bay, located to the east of the acropolis, has a rectangular basilica and a small single-nave church attributed to Hagios Georgios Stratelates because of the inscribed fresco inside.

The remains of a bath can also be observed in the same area and it is similar in plan to other baths in the region.

The infrastructure system of the bath and the city is still visible.

Among the ruins on the sea side of the Ancient city, there is also a temple dedicated to Trajan due to an inscription nearby.

However, it has survived to the present day only at the level of Stylobate.

The ruins to the north of the modern road mostly consist of tomb structures, houses and walls in the necropolis area, some of which can be traced.

There are different examples in the necropolis, from mausoleum structures to simple burial structures, and this is an important collection that reflects the tomb architecture and burial customs of the region.
